Jumping from the gates well, jockey Jye McNeil settled the three-year-old in prime position on the heels of the race’s early leaders; finding a good rhythm and receiving an ideal run in transit before displaying a keen turn of foot late to hit the line comfortably ahead of his closest rival.

Racing Manager for Weir, Jeremy Rogers told Racing Victoria the team has been thrilled with the continued form and class displayed by the Mastercraftsman gelding and are confident he will lay a great account for himself in the 2015 Queensland Derby should he warrant a berth.

“He’s a very progressive three-year-old,” Rogers said.

“The further he gets in the race the stronger he’s getting, I think he’s going to be a really nice stayer.”

Usually run over a mile and a half (2400m) at Eagle Farm, the 2015 Queensland Derby has been slated for the 2200m course at Doomben as the State’s landmark track undergoes renovations.

“This year the Queensland Derby is over 2200m because it’s at Doomben, he has to get there first but he was good today,” Rogers added.
