Having received a strong share of early wagers for success in the Queensland Derby, Pinstripe Lane is currently featured as outright favourite in betting markets at a quote of $4.80, ahead of Vilanova and Elusive Runner; currently sharing the second line of betting at even $5 odds.

Can Pinstripe Lane justify favouritism and win the 2014 Queensland Derby, or will one of her talented rivals find the line in the clear?

1st

Telepathic ($12)

A standout performer in her native New Zealand, Telepathic undoubtedly faces her biggest test to date in the 2014 Queensland Derby, but is more than worth a wager at current $12 odds for success. Returning to the track in scintillating form this time in, the Mossman filly won both the Lindauer 3.y.o Open (1200m) and Governor General’s Cup (1600m) first-up before crossing the ditch for second in the Group 3 Rough Habit Plate (2000m) on May 10th. Unlucky to be blocked for a run and fifth in the Group 3 Grand Prix Stakes (2200m) last time out, Telepathic’s chances of success with be given a strong boost with regular jockey Mark Du Plessis on board.

2nd

Amexed ($17)

Returning to the track in arguably career-best form this time in, Amexed will leave from the slightly wide barrier 11, but is likely to be offered ideal cover ahead of a strong finish. Finishing third amongst classy company in the Bundaberg Distilling Co Maiden (1300m) first-up on April 11th, the Pentire gelding strolled home to win the Strata Unit Underwriters Maiden (1600m) before repeating the dose in the Group 3 Rough Habit Plate (2000m) on May 10th. Producing a keen turn of foot to overcome poor running position and fourth in the Grand Prix Stakes last time out, trainer Tony Gollan has been pleased with the way Amexed has taken to work over the last fortnight and is expecting a polished performance this weekend.

3rd

Vilanova ($5)

Arguably the classiest horse confirmed in the final field of the 2014 Queensland Derby, Vilanova has gained a name as a rather inconsistent runner; blowing fields away with ease one week and unable to match the pace the next. Jumping as resounding favourite in the Rough Habit Plate on May 10th and only managing fourth, the Commands gelding strolled home to win the Grand Prix Stakes (2200m) by nearly four lengths last time out, truly displaying his impressive potential. Allocated the wide and awkward barrier 15, Vilanova is more than worth a wager to run a place, for which he is currently offered at generous $2.10 odds.
